Dear Neighbor,

Recently you may have a received a mailing from a candidate for office saying that the Federal Aviation Administration had made $12 million available for expansion at Solberg Airport.

This claim is entirely false.

We have not received or applied for funding for airport expansion. Our local elected officials know that these claims are untrue.  Unfortunately every election year, candidates for office attempt to use the threat of airport expansion as a way to get votes.  These are the same politicians that have supported spending millions of dollars to condemn and run the airport.

Like you we live in Readington Township.  Our homes and families are here.  We are as interested as you are in preserving the quality of life that we enjoy.  That is why we have promised the residents of Readington that would never make any major changes to the airport without public involvement and input.

We believe our airport has helped make Readington a better place to live. The taxes we pay improve our schools and township.  Hundreds of acres of woodlands and open space surrounding the airport are preserved from development.  The balloon festival and the Christmas and open house events we host every year helps bring our community together. It is unfortunate that some would use the airport to drive us apart.

We know you’ll understand that at election time, some politicians don’t tell the whole story.  We appreciate all the encouragement we’ve received in the past and hope that we can continue to count on your support in the future.

 Sincerely,

Thor Solberg
