To the Editor:
A great deal of misinformation has surrounded the recent negotiations between some township committee members and Solberg Airport. The residents of Readington need to know that our goal is to keep Solberg Airport a community airport that enhances the quality of life we enjoy. We don’t want our airport to become either a Teterboro or a Morristown.
While it’s clear that some of our local politicians are determined to seize the airport, at a cost of tens of millions of dollars to local taxpayers, we are still very disappointed that the township decided to break off negotiations.
In good faith, we have offered solutions to all the concerns raised by the committee. Most importantly, we are
not proposing to build a runway extension as claimed by certain local politicians. On the contrary, we offered to sign permanent restrictions that would guarantee forever the limitation of aircraft noise and runway length so that our airport would always remain a community airport. Sadly this proposal has been twisted to imply that we were proposing a runway expansion.I am hopeful that the residents of our township will see through this "
fear mongering" and remember that we do care a great deal about our township. We’ve grown up here and raised our families here. We’ve worked hard to keep our community special so that all future generations will be able to enjoy the airport, in just the same way that we and our children have.Sincerely,
Thor Solberg
